The Florida Yacht Brokers Association was created in 1987 to unite the large and varied number of yacht brokerages and their agents that had established themselves in Florida. A critical component of its mission is that members are required to abide by a code of ethics to protect the public against fraud, misrepresentation, or unethical practices in the yacht brokerage profession. Every FYBA member endeavors to eliminate any practices, which could be damaging to the public or the dignity and integrity of the yacht brokerage profession.
With the rapid growth of the marine industry since the end of World War II, the original members felt that self regulation by the industry would be critical to its development. Northrop and Johnson Yacht and Ship pas participated in FYBA since its inception. N&J and its agents are proud to uphold the highest standards set within the USA by participating in FYBA.
The organization is comprised of over 750 individual members
and over 350 businesses. The Yacht & Brokerage Show, held
yearly in Miami, is owned jointly by the Florida Yacht Brokers
Association and Yachting Promotions Inc. The Miami Show provides
a huge input into the Florida tourism market and is a venue
that draws potential clients and yacht lovers from around the
world to view the best the industry has to offer from large
to small.
Monthly meetings to exchange ideas and updates about yacht that
are for sale and yachts for charter keep members involved in
FYBA on a regular basis and a valuable asset to any agent. FYBA
‘s growth in membership and longevity is a testament to its
active board of directors. FYBA is dedicated to promoting the
brokerage industry through Florida and has gained such a positive
reputation that its membership has expanded beyond the state
boundaries.
Knowing that your agent is a participant in professional organizations is one way to make sure your are getting expert guidance through the purchase or sale of your yacht. FYBA has expanded it efforts into education offering new agents classes and forums to better their understanding of yachts contracts and the myriad of details from surveys to financing that are needed to protect yacht buyers and sellers. IN recent years FYBA has expanded to include yacht charter brokers and holds a regular open house for yachts to show brokers their assets. In addition, regular seminars are help to improve the knowledge & expertise of brokers booking charter. N&J agents regularly attend to deepen their working knowledge of yachts and the marine industry in both Florida & the USA.
The camaraderie developed between member brokers helps keep standards high and benefits buyers and sellers of yachts through the sense of teamwork and community this organization espouses. Working together to make each transaction as smooth as possible – a win/win for both buyer and seller is the boat of every broker. FYBA plays its part by making sure the members are reputable end knowledgeable.
FYBA is proud to be a founding member of the International Yacht Council Ltd., a consortium of world wide yacht broker associations which operate an internet database of yacht listings available to members. The Northrop & Johnson Group is also an active participant in this web site.
