Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association Broker

The Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association (MYBA), was established to provide standards and protection for the yachting community of buyers, sellers, brokers and charter clients operating in the international community of Europe.

One reason for the success of MYBA can be attributed to their lengthy research into contract forms that provide protection for all parties which is especially important in today’s high value transactions. Another is that this organization has a lengthy and details application process to vet each broker from each firm.

Back in the 1980s charter brokerage was in its infancy and clients found it difficult to research availability and quality & condition of yachts and their crews outside of their own part of the world. Charter brokers began what is now a routine of globe trotting to view yachts in a variety of locations: Genoa, Nice, Monaco, Poros and Turkey to name a few in the Mediterranean alone.

MYBA began organizing and hosting a show for large charter yachts in the spring first in San Remo and later in Genoa which offers larger marina facilities. Limited to charter yachts that have been recommended by brokers, this show provides an opportunity for N&J brokers to view their physical condition and meet the crew. Although all these yachts are operated by professional crew, owners choose yachts & crew that reflect their preferences:  from California casual with an emphasis on outdoor spaces and water sports to European elegance with a more formal flair.

Northrop & Johnson BVI participates in these shows, as well as the round table discussions and educational forums that hare held to stay current with local conditions and anticipate the next trend so that our owners & charter clients are well protected.

Many changes have occurred since its inception – the creation of the EU, the integration of Russia and Africa into the capitalist system and MYBA has been there to insist on education and standard of the brokers working within the yacht brokerage industry.

In the face of a rapidly expanding new building project for yachts over 100’, MYBA is an organization that encourages its member firms to adhere the highest ethical business standards.

MYBA also created & operates a web site for companies to list their yachts in detail with accurate & up to date information. To ensure privacy, these web brochures are password protected so that owners may be sure that their schedules & details are given only to qualified potential clients. This web site is constantly updated to ensure attractive state of the art promotional brochures and accurate information as it becomes available.

Member firms like Northrop & Johnson adhere to the high standards set by MYBA.  We regularly participate in forums and other educational retreats to make sure that our brokers are knowledgeable about not just the yachts themselves, but also the legalities and tax consequences of yacht ownership and chartering. We at Northrop & Johnson provide worldwide access to the top experts in a variety of fields.

In this fast changing global economy, we may not have the answer to every question, but we do know where to go & who to ask to find the answer for you!

MYBA is one aspect of the high quality resources available to the N&J BVI team. This global networking is a large part of the success of N&J.
